How to Start a Photography Business in the State of Alabama
Welcome

Welcome to our website! Let me begin by saying that there is nothing for sale here and nothing to subscribe to. This site was written by a long-time veteran of the photography business in the state of Alabama. I only wish to pass my knowledge along to the next generation of photographers.

So you want to be a photographer!

You have a camera, you are creating some cool pictures, and you think "I could make some money at this!" What do you need to do to start generating revenue from your photography?

There are quite a few things that you need to know and do BEFORE you ask anyone to pay you for your photography services.

If you receive compensation in any form (money, chickens, etc) for your photography, then your are "in business." In Alabama, if you are in business, then you must be licensed, collect and report sales taxes, etc.

This site is intended to provide you with as much of that "getting started" information as possible.

But Wait!

Ok, many of you are saying "I don't want to fool with licensing right now. I'm just getting started." You need to be aware that if you are conducting business without all of the proper licenses and permits, then you are breaking the law. Sooner or later, you will get caught and the fines are no fun at all.

If you want to be a photographer in Alabama, do it right and be legal. All it takes is one unhappy customer or one mad competitor to report you to one of the licensing or tax agencies and your whole business will come crashing down around you.

I have taken the time to prepare the information on this site, please take the time to review it. It will save you LOTS of money on fines and penalties! By the way, the law does not discriminate based on age. If you are a student or even a retired senior citizen, you must still be properly licensed if you want to be compensated for your photography.
